Are all products available on your web site?

We try our best to have all products on hand. Occasionally high demand may exceed our supply. When a product is not available it is removed from our site.

How many people will a bushel of hard crabs feed?

If you are just serving crabs, a good rule of thumb is about a dozen hard crabs per person. If you are serving other food, we estimate about 8-10 crabs per person.

Is it better to order live or steamed crabs?

We do our best to ensure that every crab is alive upon delivery. Normal mortality rates usually does not exceed 15%. Extra crabs are usually packed to compensate for normal mortality rates. Count live ones instead of dead ones when assessing your order. Unfortunately, we can't control the shipping environment and in rare instances mortality rates may be higher due to weather conditions or handling by the courier. We strongly recommend ordering steamed crabs to be sure that every crab is edible upon arrival.

What is the best way to reheat steamed crabs when they arrive?

REHEATING STEAMED CRABS:
(?)-Blue Crabs
(1)-cup vinegar
(1)-cup beer
(3)-tablespoons salt
(1/2)-cup seasoning

>>Place a raised rack in the bottom of a large pan (minimum of 2 inches), try not to let the crabs touch the water. Add equal quantities of water, vinegar & beer to just below level of rack. Layer crabs; sprinkle each layer with mixture of crab seasoning and salt. Cover and steam for 6-8 minutes. Although they are seasoned before they are shipped, additional seasoning will add flavor. Be carefull not to steam to long as the meat will dry out.

>>Steam live crabs for 25-30 min. using the same process. Try not to get bitten!

What is the difference between colossal, jumbo, large & medium hardcrabs?

Hardcrabs use a system called point-to-point measurement.(see below) Colossal hard crabs measure 6+1/2" & up, Jumbo hard crabs measure 6"-6+1/2", Large hard crabs measure 5+1/2"-6" and Medium hard crabs measure 5"-5+1/2".

What is the difference between fresh and pasteurized crab meat?

Fresh crab meat is picked fresh daily and put in plastic containers. Fresh crab meat has a shelf life of about 4-5 days after order is received. Pasteurized crab meat is put in sealed cans and can be kept for several months. There is very little taste difference between the two

Will my order arrive fresh?

We take pride in assuring that every package arrives as fresh as possible. When your package leaves our facility, it is packed with more than enough refrigerant to prevent spoilage. If your order is spoiled or damaged due to negligence of "Linton's Seafood", we will replace it free-of-charge. If you receive your order and it is damaged or you suspect spoilage, please do not discard until a representative from Linton's Seafood is contacted.
